AI-era parenting can quickly become a hunt for a one-line answer about which subject or career will be “safe.” Treating any technology executive’s remarks as that answer would be a mistake. AI is not a machine that finishes the thinking

Rather than banning AI outright or handing it unlimited authority, families can practise reviewing its output together. After asking an AI system to explain a science concept, ask: What is the source? Could there be another explanation? What does the original document say? A model can produce fluent prose, but fluency does not guarantee a source, an accurate date, or the right context. Discuss how generated material can reproduce other people’s work or stereotypes. A simple note naming the tool used, the human revisions made, and the original sources consulted helps turn an assignment into honest work rather than invisible outsourcing.

A 20-minute family exercise

Choose one ordinary topic, such as ways to save water in your neighbourhood. First, the child writes three ideas without AI. Next, ask an AI tool for suggestions. Mark what overlaps and what is new, then verify one important claim through a public agency or other primary source. Finally, revise the answer to correct what the tool missed or got wrong. The goal is not a faster answer. It is building a loop of question, verification, and revision.

Huang’s public remarks offer one view of AI as a collaborator. The more durable parenting task is different: help a child ask for evidence and explain a judgment in front of any tool. That kind of AI literacy can reduce anxiety about changing technology while making human responsibility clearer.
