Korea’s 2025 High-Efficiency Appliance Rebate: A Guide

Current to 25 August 2026. This summarises the official 2025 programme notice. Grants can change with budget, notices, and product criteria, so verify the official channel before purchasing or applying.

Korea Energy Agency (KEA) announced that the 2025 high-efficiency appliance rebate programme began on 4 July 2025. Under that notice, Korean citizens aged 19 or over could receive 10% of the purchase price of qualifying products, up to KRW 300,000 per person, for eligible purchases made on or after 4 July 2025. The programme was described as continuing until funds were exhausted. A purchase in the same calendar year therefore did not automatically guarantee a rebate: purchase-date eligibility and the availability of application funds needed separate confirmation.

The 2025 notice listed eleven categories: refrigerators, kimchi refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, electric rice cookers, corded vacuum cleaners, air purifiers, TVs, dehumidifiers, clothes dryers, and dishwashers. A category name alone was not enough. Buyers needed to check the actual energy-efficiency label on the product and the applicable standards-effective date, then match the grade, model, and purchase date to the notice. A retailer’s product page, verbal sales guidance, or an old blog post should not be treated as a final eligibility ruling.

KEA said applications would generally require material connecting the product and purchase: a photo of the efficiency label, a photo of the nameplate showing the serial number, transaction details, and a receipt. Keep those records readable through delivery and installation, and ensure that buyer, date, and model details are consistent. Because this is a post-purchase process, do not add a rebate to a sale price as though it were automatic; eligibility recognition and application status are distinct.

When the July 2025 notice was issued, the application system was still being built. KEA directed users to the official rebate site and service channels for updates. Rules can be supplemented through FAQs and system notices during the year. A later programme may change its budget, eligible people, categories, recognised purchase period, cap, and application route—or may not exist. Do not mistake a 2025 article for a live application notice.

Before buying, follow a cautious sequence: find the current announcement on KEA’s or the official rebate site; check the exact model’s label and standard-effective date; verify purchase, seller, evidence, and remaining-budget requirements; and follow any status or correction request in the official application system.
